Looking back over the past two weeks, there’s a surprising amount worth writing down. From 9/15 to 9/17, out of sheer interest, I went and earned a basic gelato certificate, and spent a good deal of time sorting through and learning the science behind ice cream, the production process, and all the jargon. Truth be told, I just love eating ice cream. Eat enough gelato, though, and you get picky…
To take that course, I missed W2 of NTU’s “Innovative Thinking and Strategy Practice,” but I still dutifully did the homework. Two more Thursdays have flown by and today we’re already at W4. I’m gradually getting used to the assignment format, though writing them still takes quite a while. My approach is roughly to break down the question, write a draft myself, then have AI review it to see where it falls short, and learn along the way. As for Vibe Coding, since I’ve already built all sorts of odds and ends, that part has never been especially hard for me.
These two weeks happened to include the Mid-Autumn Festival, so I took the family on a trip to Hualien. This time everything on the itinerary was an activity: river tracing up Baibao Creek, the A+ course at Wild Monkey Forest, and the Hunter Academy — physical exertion from start to finish, and someone got a little cross… But I’d guess finishing it all must have felt like quite an accomplishment, right?! Still, on the way back through Yilan, we got to enjoy a three-to-four-hour slow cruise through the Hsuehshan Tunnel. I suppose everyone predicts your prediction: head home a day early, and you just get to the slow cruise a day early…
Work goes on as usual, with several threads running at once: attending conferences, looking for interesting problems, interviewing with interesting companies, doing interesting things. For instance, I take public transit every day, and even after reaching the stop I often have to look up real-time bus arrivals separately, because the information on Google Maps is so inaccurate. So I decided to apply for the government’s API and try building a tool for my own use to take some of the hassle out of riding the bus. That’s how the Sigmovo project started.
Lantern, on the other hand, came from a classmate’s struggle to find teachers for an after-school program, which made me want to help look for a solution, and also see whether the AI Application Planner certification could be of some use. As it happens, “Innovative Thinking and Strategy Practice” also needs a startup topic, so I’m rolling the two together.
Now that we’re into October, there’s an AIoT (Associate) certification exam at the end of the month, and two weeks after that comes the AI Application Planner (Intermediate) exam, so it’s about time to start warming up.
